Vancouver School Board is one of the largest public school districts in western Canada. There are 18 secondary schools, 92 elementary schools and 2 adult education centers enrolling approximately 50,000 students. Its International Education Program gives international students the opportunity to study with Canadian students. In Vancouver schools, the academic year begins in early September and ends in late June. All schools are co-educational and no uniforms are required. Vancouver School Board offers English Language Learners (ELL) instruction in all high schools; multilingual support for international students and homestay with welcoming local families.

In every Vancouver public high school, students can enroll in a wide variety of excellent elective programs in art, dance, film, drama, fashion design, band, choir, musicals and orchestra. Information technology including visual and graphic arts, CAD design and robotics are also offered. Sports and fitness are popular elective programs among Vancouver students. For students who like to learn a second or third language, they can take one or more language programs that include French, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. There are many other elective programs for students to choice from, such as biology, anatomy, physics, chemistry, geology and more.
